Quiet Moments With God

A crackling fireplace, soothing Christian music, a throw tossed over you as you're curled up in an oversized chair….add to this list a room to yourself, and you have the perfect setting for a close encounter with God. Of course it takes much more than this, but it certainly helps set the stage as you pull out your favorite Bible.

It's those quiet moments we all hunger for just as with any other relationship. We not only hunger for them, but we need these moments away from the cares of the world to spend time with God.

In Luke 10:38-42 we see two sisters. Both love the Lord. Martha is busy in service for Jesus preparing a meal for him. Mary sits at his feet as he teaches her. Martha becomes upset and asks Jesus to have Mary come help her with the preparations. In verse 41& 42 Jesus answers her and says "Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things; But one thing is needful; and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Jesus loves both Mary and Martha, but he was telling Martha that first and foremost is a relationship, then service.

Taking the time to slip away with God gives Him time to speak to us, not only through His Word, but through our spiritual ears (our heart) also. It's often hard for us to believe that He loves us so much that He actually does want to have a close, intimate relationship with us.

I've often heard the saying "You take on the likeness of the ones you spend time with." In other words, you are who you "hang out" with. The more time you spend with Jesus, the more often you're in His presence, the more you will talk, walk and act like Him. You will learn to trust Him, and you are more apt to hear His voice and to recognize it.

Find time each day to slow the pace down. Find your quiet spot to be alone with God. Praise and worship Him. Love Him and let Him love you. Remember to enter his gates with Praise and Thanksgiving. He's worthy.
